Well, for a "quick study" as you call it, this is incredible. I have always had trouble with oils...and know how hard they can be. And that is why this is just that much more impressive to me. Great work...can't wait to see more..

I need to get me one of them there good teacher things don't I....lol.

No really, in college, I experimented with the oils, and though I liked them ok and all, I really liked watercolors better. Then a few years later, someone put an airbrush in my hand and said, ok..push that button, pull that and paint...and I swear, it was like coming home for me...i don't do I much here in Chicago...too cold and the snow thing in the winter...and I can't inside. (Did that once in my apt in florida...never getting that security deposit back) But the weather is starting to pick up...so soon...

And isn't that a strange thing about us artists. At least for me, I hated school....oh i just dreaded classes and most of the time, I only went cause if i didn't, I couldn't play ball. But yet, here I am, 15 yrs out of high school...9 out of college, and I can't wait to learn more and more about this art stuff. Insane isn't it?

I did build up lots of paint.. it's very hard to do because if it dries even a little bit it gets sticky and gross..
Thank you!

WOW! Your art is TOP CLASS. its awesome.

I wanna ask you some tips if you dont mind. Im trying to start on oils. Do you use underpainting? People seems to work with Grisaille (b&w) or verdaccio (greenish), wich one do you like best?

Wich medium did you used for the glazing on this piece? I heard that the Gel Medium works better for glazing, instead of just adding loads of turpentine, is this so?

Kudos for your piece again! Really amazing!

Hello! Thanks for the compliment.
I do use underpainting it is a very important step. Not only does it map out the values for what you are going to paint, but it will unify the color of the whole peice once it is done.
For portraits or daylight paintings I use burnt umber and burnt seinna for the underpainting. I use more umber on the cooler parts and more sienna where the warmer parts are going to be.
For night pictures I like to use ultra marine blue and a touch of asphaultum(gamblin) for the darker parts.

For glazing I like to use liquin original. Yes turpintine will dull your painting. I've never tried gel medium before.

Good luck! You have a great great ability for drawing. I'm sure you'll make an excellent painter because drawing and light is key to being a successful painter.

amazing pose and lighting! i love her lips especially.

the one thing i would mention though is the hairline on the right...is is meant to look greyish and smudgy?

Thanks.. Yea I could fix the smudgyness. I'm not sure that this peice was really a finish.. just a study. Maybe I'm just lazy. hehe.
